The Golden Torch is also known throughout the botany world as Cereus Spachianus, Echinocereus Spachianus, Trichocereus Spachianus, or Echinopsis Spachiana. This faster-growing column cactus is also somewhat sprawling (always searching for the sun) and grows pups from soil level. The Golden Torch is a tall clustering plant that is best suited for low-wind areas; it does great as a feature against high walls and buildings. Ideal for pots, planters, and ground planting, Cactus Vision typically sells the Golden Torch cactus as tiering clusters, as they look perfectly uniform when in good health. Like most cacti, this sun-loving cactus is susceptible to scale and mealybugs. The Golden Torch cactus should not be planted in a low-light area as elongation can occur easily. Although their flowers don't last for long, it's worth taking a camera out at night to capture these 10cm diameter feather-like flowers in their element. Handling light amounts of frost, this species is a great option for our Western Sydney and Canberra clients.
